It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of longtime South Lake Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club member Diane Martin on December 17, 2025.
Diane was a cherished part of the Windjammers community for nearly five decades. She began sailing with the Club in 1978, first racing aboard Olsen 30s before moving on to Santa Cruz 27s, including as part owner of Sacre Bleu. She later became the proud owner of another Santa Cruz 27, Wind Dance, which she lovingly restored and sailed through 2015.
Beyond her passion for racing, Diane was devoted to growing the sport and sharing her knowledge. She was an instructor in Learn-to-Sail clinics, mentoring countless sailors and helping many community members take their first steps onto the water. She was a frequent competitor in SLTWYC races and an enthusiastic participant in women’s regattas, where she campaigned her boats with skill and determination. Diane’s love of sailing extended well beyond Lake Tahoe. She spent time chartering and cruising in the Mediterranean, embracing adventure wherever the wind would take her.
In addition to her contributions on the water, Diane gave generously of her time ashore. She served the Windjammers for many years as Secretary, playing an important role as a dedicated and reliable flag officer. Diane’s presence, warmth, and commitment to SLTWYC will be deeply missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
