SLTWYC Recognized at the 2025 PICYA Annual Awards
On Sunday, November 9, the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association (PICYA) hosted its annual awards ceremony at the Berkeley Yacht Club. It was an evening filled with pride and well-deserved recognition for outstanding boating organizations in Northern California, including the South Lake Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club!
SLTWYC’s own Linda Gordon, serving as our club’s PICYA delegate, had the honor of presenting both the Individual Meritorious Service Award and the Club Meritorious Service Award to Patrick Brown of Stockton Sailing Club. Patrick’s heroic actions during this year’s Delta Ditch Run saved the life of one of our own beloved members, Ross Groelz, who went overboard in treacherous conditions. Linda’s presentation was particularly moving, reminding all in attendance of the deep bonds that connect our sailing community and the bravery that defines those who take to the water.
Adding to the celebration, Georgette Hartley, our current Communications Chair and a returning member of the 2026 Board, was awarded the Sims Webmaster Award for her exceptional work building and maintaining sltwyc.com since 2023! Georgette’s dedication has strengthened our membership outreach and created a more connected, engaged community both on and off the water. Recognition for her outstanding efforts has furthered SLTWYC’s reputation within PICYA as a forward-thinking organization.
The evening also marked a milestone for our club as SLTWYC was recognized as a Four-Star Club for 2025, a distinction that honors our ongoing commitment to PICYA’s mission to enhance the quality of recreational boating in Northern California through advocacy, education, and vibrant social connections.
Representing SLTWYC at the event were Linda and Gary Gordon, Georgette Hartley, Ross Groelz, Jennifer Frasier, and Ashley Farr, who together embodied the spirit of our club’s camaraderie and dedication. We’re grateful to PICYA and our fellow clubs for a wonderful evening of recognition and fellowship and we look forward to continuing to represent SLTWYC at future events.
Mark your calendars for April 26, 2026, Opening Day on the Bay! We hope to see a strong showing from SLTWYC as we celebrate the start of another great boating season.
