Hello Members!

Eric, your Rear Commodore here, with a report from this month’s racing in San Francisco Bay!

The two-day Big Daddy regatta took place at Richmond Yacht Club on March 8-9. SLTWYC was well represented, with five members competing in the Express 27 class, one in the J/24 class, and another racing in the PHRF E class aboard an Olson 30. Day One featured three buoy races in the Olympic Circle, while day two was a pursuit-style distance race. Competitors were required to round both Alcatraz and Angel Island but could choose the order before returning to the finish.

Day One Report
Sunny skies and steady winds of 10-15 knots, paired with a slight ebbing current, created ideal sailing conditions. The Express 27 class had a strong turnout with 16 boats on the starting line, making for some close competition. Dave Wick’s Hot Sheet just missed the podium, finishing 4th overall with a scoreline of 3-3-7. Meanwhile, Greg Felton’s Under the Radar showed flashes of brilliance, winning the first race but ending the day in 6th place with a 1-10-4 finish.

Day Two Report
After a night of dancing and camaraderie at the RYC clubhouse (including Sam Corso’s exhibition of the worm on the RYC dance floor), crews were ready for another fantastic day of racing. Under clear blue skies, the wind built to 15-20 knots, with a strong 2-3 knot ebbing current adding to the challenge. Under the Radar had a stellar performance, opting for a counterclockwise course around the islands and securing an impressive 4th-place finish out of 101 boats! Frog Lips (27th place) and Hot Sheet (30th place) chose the clockwise route, but it proved less favorable for a top finish.

Congratulations!
A big shoutout to the skippers and crews of Under the Radar, Frog Lips, Hot Sheet, Wild Thing, Eagle, Dianne, and Yankee Air Pirate! Proud to see the Windjammers representing in full force!

Leeward!
Eric
