June 2025 | Ashley Farr
Saturday, July 14, 2025 marked the first Tahoe Cup Regatta and our first Signature Social of the 2025 Season! Check out the summary of both events below:
Commodore’s Cup
Thank you to all our competitors and volunteers that showed up for the first Tahoe Cup Regatta of the 2025 season: Commodore’s Cup. This is traditionally a mid-distance race and this year we covered around 11 miles. Our PRO was SLTWYC’s very own Commodore, Richard Panuschka, who sent racers on a fun “special course” which reacquainted many with the location of our local racing marks.

With 8 boats on the starting line, we saw swirly, confused breeze pre-start which mercifully turned into 20+ knots out of the southwest. The second leg of the course made for a fast downwind followed by a spicy beam reach for the third leg with many boats getting up on plane. It was great to see our diverse fleet so well-represented. In the end New Wave took first, followed closely by Zenda Express, and Under The Radar.
A BIG thank you to our volunteer race committee who set an excellent starting line and managed all race day activities! These events are made awesome because of you!
Up next is Around the Pins, which will be a series of buoy races that are sure to keep the crews busy! Make sure you sign-up for this next Tahoe Cup Regatta, Saturday, June 28, 2025, click here for registration. See you on the starting line!
Waves & Woodstock
The Waves & Woodstock social was a far-out fusion of sailing spirit and retro flair, hosted at the scenic Camp Richardson Boathouse. The venue offered the opportunity to drive, bike, or even boat up to the party! We were excited to see several boats sail directly from the sailing race to the event.
Tie dye was the official dress code of the night, and the crowd did not disappoint! There was no shortage of rainbows, funky sunglasses, and vintage vibes. It was a night of firsts! Attendees got to test out our new photo booth, a fun new feature that let folks capture their grooviest looks and silliest moments throughout the evening.
Entry included: food ticket, drink ticket, and 4 raffle tickets to win SLTWYC goodies. Attendees enjoyed a hot spread of volunteer prepared food including: baked potatoes piled high with all the fixings, pigs-in-a-blanket, fresh watermelon and chicken kabobs made fresh by the Race Committee, some greens, and a sweet spread of cookies and brownies to top it all off. Congrats to our members and guests that took home some totally rad SWAG!
On Saturday, we also welcomed 9 new members into the club! After dining and inductions, came the race results followed by shameless dancing to some groovy tunes. Big thanks to all who were able to join us! If you snapped any pictures from the night or during the sail in, please email those to communications@sltwyc.com.
Thank you to all of our social committee volunteers who helped with meal prep, event setup, and cleanup at the end of the night. These socials are made possible thanks to your support!
Our next Signature Social is Dockside Dapper Brunch on Sunday, July 20, at Steamers Bar & Grill! RSVP online today, click here to reserve your seat.
