This Sunday's event is JustaRace. A little opus to fill in an August afternoon. I'm thinking we'll do a few or three short around the pins races. No committee boat. So we'll do like we did for the Commodores Cup. I'll detail it more at the skippers meeting which is 1230 to 1245 at the clubhouse. Tentative first warning is 2:30 at club mark. Have your vhf radio, course sheet and a watch you can synch to gps time.

Dear Members of SLTWYC,

Russ and Debbie Noorda, of Valkerie Ericson 35, have extended an offer to all our members. That offer is to go with them on their yacht as they do Race Committee on Sept 8 and 9 for our Perpetual Regatta. This is an opportunity to learn and observe how a fundamental duty of our yacht club is done.

Mid-Distance Race

14 July 2019 
Skipper's meeting and registration 10:30 to 10:45 at the clubhouse
First warning 12:00 noon at Club Mark, "O"
We'll run medium distance course, 10-15 miles depending on conditions.
This is a Tahoe Cup race.
We are without a committee boat for this event. I'll set a line using a temporary mark and "O". Have a timepiece synched to gps time. Have a marine VHF on channel 68 to hear the course designation and the starting time. Upon finishing record your time to be reported for corrected time.
We'll discuss this starting procedure and possible courses at the skipper's meeting.

The Crew List

How does the crew list work?

You start by filling out the crew list form. The form contains your contact information, your preferences in sailing and any qualifications that you may have. By the way, we encourage beginners to submit their names to the crew list. Many skippers prefer training someone new rather than trying to get rid of "bad" habits of "experienced" crew. We also encourage skippers to try out new crew members. Like most sports we like to get new people involved. The skippers meetings take place day of the race at our Club House. This may present a potential crew member with the opportunity to get on a boat.

The Racing Crew List

When filling out your experience try not to oversell yourself because it will be come apparent soon after you start what your real qualifications are. This is the most active crew list and it can get you on a boat quickly. We encourage novices to post. You would be surprised how many skippers would prefer an enthusiastic novice over someone with experience.

The Cruising Crew List

If you are looking to sail and meet some new friends, this is the list for you. Experience is less important than for racing and it's a good way to get your feet wet, so to speak. When a skipper contacts you to go sailing, it's a good idea to ask him about his experience. You don't want to go out as a novice with a novice skipper. Skippers appreciate it if you volunteer to bring food or drink along for the sail.
